Online Educational Sessions
Live, Online Lunch-n-Learn
The Lunch-n-Learn sessions are highly interactive and educational opportunities that occur on the first Monday of every other month at 1:00 p.m. EST. A wide range of current evidence-based practice (EBP) topics are presented by experts with opportunities for the participants to ask questions. Centra, an interactive web conferencing system, is used for the sessions. You can download the easy-to-follow instructions on how to use Centra here. To accommodate members that are unable to attend the live presentations, we record and post the archived sessions on this page. They can be uploaded at any time by clicking on the session title. All presentations are approximately 45-60 minutes long and include a 15 minute Q & A session. We encourage your involvement during the sessions! Live, Online Journal Club
The Journal Club sessions are an amazing opportunity for nurses to come together to discuss the evidence on a specific clinical topic. Participants read the selected research article prior to the session and complete the critique form. The facilitator guides the participants through a discussion in an open and supportive environment. There are never wrong ideas, just different perspectives that enhance the learning experience. The Journal Club sessions occur on the third Monday of every other month at 1:00 p.m. EST. Centra, an interactive web conferencing system, is used for the sessions. The following PowerPoint templates were created to assist you in facilitating live, online Journal Club sessions. If you choose to use them as they are, you would only need to insert the title of your article, your name, credentials, and the name of your organization on the first (Introduction) slide, and the citation of the article being critiqued on the last (References) slide. However, you may also choose to individualize these slides as you wish, e.g. adding new slides, additional information to existing slides, or applicable clip art to slides. We hope you find these templates helpful!
*Unfortunately, some NNPN members may not be able to access the Journal Club or Lunch-n-Learn sessions because of firewalls or specific settings on your individual computer systems. If you are having problems, you should ask your technical support staff for possible remedies. It has been brought to our attention that computers at the VA have special IT safety features that interfere with connectivity to these sessions and that these safety features cannot be altered. If this applies to you, your alternative options would be to participate in the live sessions or access the archived sessions from a non-VA computer.
